With Flu and cold season right around the corner, I am always looking for a natural remedy to cure my cold.  There is nothing worse than missing out on work, seeing friends or vacation because you’ve become ill.  Lucky for you and me, there are so many natural remedies out there to help you fight the common cold!

Get Rest!

It may seem obvious but getting lots of rest and sleep is so important.  Your body needs it to recover and fight off germs.  Pushing yourself to stay up or power through work will only increase the duration of your cold.  Take it easy and get to bed early!

Avoid Sugar

We all know sugar is bad for us, but did you know that sugar actually weakens your immune system?  Avoid adding sugar to your tea, having hard candies and say “no” to things like pudding, jello, and popsicles.  These things will only prolong your cold.

Processed Sugar

Ginger

Make yourself a cup of ginger tea daily! Ginger can also be put in your Teami Tumbler with your favorite teas! Ginger can help to break down inflammation, clear congestion and will help your sore throat!  Add 2 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger into 8oz of hot water and drink 2-3 times a day!

Eucalyptus Oil

This is a personal favorite of mine!  Every time I come down with a cold I lie in bed and rub Eucalyptus oil on my chest to help break up my congestion!  You can take a steam shower and place some drops at either end of the shower or you boil water and add 4-5 drops of eucalyptus.  Lean over the bowl and cover your head with a towel to trap the steam.  Inhale the steam for 5-10 minutes and your congestion will clear right up!

Get Some Extra Vitamin C

We all know that vitamin C is great for boosting your immune system!  Make sure you’re increasing your vitamin C once you start to feel that first sniffle.  Try eating fruits and veggies that are high in vitamin C -Yellow bell peppers, dark leafy greens (kale), Kiwi, broccoli, strawberries, citrus fruits, mango, and papaya! Don't forget your Vit-C serum in your skincare routine for a little extra boost!
