The holidays are a time for spending time with family, indulging in home-cooked meals and celebrating the holidays! With all the fun events and meals, the holidays can be a seriously tough time to stay healthy - we feel you!

We put together our top tips to stay healthy during the happiest time of the year to finish off the year strong and start on your resolutions early! These tips are soo easy to incorporate into your routine right now - here are some ways to stay healthy during the holidays.

1. Eat Mindfully

When you’re eating your favorite meal, are you actually enjoying it? Eating mindfully means you not only know what you’re eating, but you’re actually enjoying the food by slowing down! On top of the savoring, eating slower actually benefits your body + digestion! This includes better digestion, weight maintenance, less bloating, and better hydration!

Being mindful also means knowing what you’re putting into your body! For most people, holiday meals can mean heavy, not-so-healthy options. It’s totally okay to indulge a little bit - it’s all about portions!

When you go to parties and other social gatherings you will often be eating and drinking many things that might not be the healthiest for your body. A good solution is to eat before you go out. You won't eat too much. Also, if you do drink alcohol, having healthier food in your body can help reduce the effects.

Be sure to make your own plate mindfully - go for protein sources and vegetables for the majority of your plate for at least one half. Then, go for sides to fill the rest of the plate!

If you’re worried about options at holiday events - another option is to offer to bring something! The host will not only love the offer of pitching in, but it also gives you something you know is healthy and an option! We have some amazing holiday recipes that are detox-friendly and everyone will love - like our butternut squash or mediterranean salad!

2. Make Time for Self Care

Although the holidays can be a great time - sometimes so much happening can be overwhelming and we can feel entirely stressed. Don’t let the holidays take a toll on your emotional and mental health - map out some self-care time!

One of the biggest stress triggers during this time is waiting last minute! Whether you’re hosting or attending an event - plan ahead! Get the gift, pick the outfit out, etc!

On top of stress, people are quick to overwhelm themselves. Manage stress by taking a step back during this holiday season and take time for yourself. Do a mask, indulge in a book, get a massage or snuggle up with loved ones!

Pro tip: if you have family staying with you, self care can seem tough. Invite them to join you - chances are they feel the same way and it’s a great bonding activity! Have a spa night with our Green Tea Detox Mask & Beauty Butterfly Mask

3. Boost Your Immune System

Cold weather and rushing around is a recipe for a weakened immune system and getting sick! In between the holiday fun, be sure you’re sleeping adequately, hydrating your body (infuse your water wit some lemon and ginger for a serious immune boost) and filling your plate with a rainbow of veggies for nutrient boosts!

You might be asking, “why do I need a rainbow? I eat my greens”! Well, by having a variety of colors on your plate, it’s giving you a variety of nutrients and vitamins! Those colors aren’t just for show - they’re a result of vitamins and benefits bursting from the vegetable!

Here’s what each color is bringing to your plate (no pun intended):

5. Stay Active

The holidays can be very hectic and will give you a million reasons why you don't have time to exercise. Even the little things will help. Physical activity such as light stretching, yoga, going for a walk to enjoy the winter weather, watching some fun workout or dance videos and following along.  Weight loss during the holidays is possible with the right routine.

The Mayo Clinic says, "Regular trips to the gym are great, but don't worry if you can't find a large chunk of time to exercise every day. Any amount of activity is better than none at all. To reap the benefits of exercise, just get more active throughout your day — take the stairs instead of the elevator or rev up your household chores. Consistency is key."

6. Stay Hydrated

Did you know simply not drinking enough water can be the cause of your bloating, skin issues and that tired feeling? Everyone should be drinking a gallon a day, which to most people, can sound like a lot! Our favorite hydration hack is to make yummy detox waters to get a little extra flavor and boost benefits! Simply add lemons and your favorite fruit or spice it up with these seasonal combos:
